HONG KONG, Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- On 5 November 2026, the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). This year's expo has convened participants from 162 countries, regions, and international organizations, featuring more than 4,100 corporate exhibitors and a record-breaking number of new product debuts. As a nine-year CIIE participant, Fosun has joined forces with its overseas member companies and global partners to present its latest achievements in innovative drugs, advanced medical devices, and health management at the Fosun Pharma booth (booth no.: 2.1C4-01) in the Medical Equipment and Healthcare Products Exhibition Area. The exhibits cover core therapeutic areas including oncology, immunology and inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases.
Guo Guangchang, Chairman of Fosun International, remarked: "Having participated in all nine editions of the CIIE, Fosun has witnessed the platform become increasingly dynamic and open, generating a steady stream of innovation. For Fosun, the CIIE is far more than a six-day expo. It serves as an annual test of our global industrial and innovation capabilities. Over the past nine years, we have helped bring world-class technologies to China, converting 'exhibits' into commercial 'products' while helping overseas partners transition from 'exhibitors' to 'investors'. At the same time, the CIIE has accelerated the global expansion of Fosun's innovations."
"Whether introducing the da Vinci surgical systems, the Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) system, and Ongentys to China, or delivering HANSIZHUANG, HANQUYOU, and artesunate to patients worldwide, our underlying approach remains identical: combining global resources with China's capabilities. As China embarks on its 15th Five-Year Plan, Fosun will leverage its established innovation and globalization capabilities. Together with our global partners, we will bring more high-quality innovations to China and scale Chinese breakthroughs in global markets to benefit more patients worldwide," Guo Guangchang added.
da Vinci 5 Makes China Debut Alongside Cutting-Edge Technologies
The Fosun Pharma booth features cutting-edge medical technologies and innovative products from around the world. Commemorating the 20th anniversary of introducing its da Vinci surgical systems to China, Fosun's partner Intuitive Surgical is presenting the next-generation da Vinci 5 system for the first time in China, designed for robotic-assisted thoracic and abdominal procedures. Meanwhile, Sweden-based Breas Medical is debuting its new Breas Apto respiratory mask for the Chinese market.
For nine years, Fosun has accelerated the transition of innovative technologies from exhibition debuts to commercial launches. In 2017, Fosun Pharma partnered with Intuitive Surgical, a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery, to establish Intuitive Fosun, a joint venture based in Shanghai. The da Vinci Xi surgical system debuted at the inaugural CIIE in 2018 and achieved commercial launch in China the following year, successfully transforming "exhibits" into commercial "products". The Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy (Ion System) followed a similar trajectory. First showcased at the CIIE in 2019, it received marketing approval in China in 2024, extending the use of minimally invasive robotic technology beyond surgery to the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases. This year, the da Vinci SP surgical system was included in the catalog under the "Hong Kong and Macau Medicine and Equipment Connect" scheme. It was also admitted into the Special Review Procedure for Innovative Medical Devices by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), paving the way to benefit more patients.
Intuitive Fosun's portfolio now includes two platforms: the da Vinci surgical systems and the Ion System. With 33 training centers established across China, it has trained more than 23,000 doctors and built a clinical solutions team of nearly 200 professionals to provide hospitals with ongoing support in using the systems.
From Exhibition to Clinical Practice: Making Innovation More Accessible and Affordable
The evolution of da Vinci surgical systems in China—from being an exhibit to a commercial product, and from imported technology to advanced local manufacturing—demonstrates how the CIIE's impact extends well beyond the expo itself. It also reflects Fosun's growing ability to adapt innovations for local needs and bring them into commercial production, accelerating the translation of global medical advances into clinical benefits for patients across China.
This year, Fosun Pharma is showcasing further advances in innovative drugs and medical devices across oncology, immunology and inflammation, and central nervous system diseases. Several products that made their initial debuts at previous editions of the CIIE have since transitioned into essential treatment options for patients.
Fosun Pharma introduced Akynzeo (netupitant and palonosetron hydrochloride capsules), the world's first fixed-dose combination antiemetic targeting two distinct pathways, to China and is now accelerating its domestic localization. Following its inclusion in the National Reimbursement Drug List (NRDL) in 2023, Akynzeo's injectable formulation received approval in China in 2026. Yi Kai Da (ejilunsai injection), China's first approved CAR-T cell therapy, is now available across a network of over 190 treatment centers spanning 29 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities nationwide. More than 1,500 patients with relapsed or refractory lymphoma have received the therapy, with the initial clinical trial patient remaining cancer-free for more than eight years. Meanwhile, WANTILE (tenapanor hydrochloride tablets), the world's first phosphate absorption inhibitor, received approval in China in February 2025 and was incorporated into the NRDL later that year.
In neurodegenerative diseases, Fosun Pharma is showcasing Exablate Neuro, a MRgFUS system that has treated over 30,000 patients across more than 210 medical centers worldwide. Unlike conventional brain surgery, the procedure requires no skull opening, implants or general anesthesia. It offers a new treatment option for patients with medication-refractory essential tremor or tremor-dominant Parkinson's disease. The showcase also includes Ongentys (opicapone capsules), a new treatment for Parkinson's disease approved in more than 40 countries and regions. It became available in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone in 2024. To address unmet clinical needs in conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, Fosun is actively building an integrated ecosystem combining diagnosis with advanced therapeutics.
From an innovation's CIIE debut to regulatory approval, commercial launch and local production, the ultimate value of innovation lies in patient accessibility. By expanding reach through a combination of national medical insurance, commercial health insurance and municipal-level government-backed supplemental insurance program (Huiminbao), Fosun is working to make innovative treatments remain both accessible and affordable, translating CIIE opportunities into tangible patient benefits.
Driving Global Expansion of Innovative Drugs and Deepening Global Partnerships
As a platform bridging global innovations with the Chinese market and advancing domestic breakthroughs worldwide, the CIIE continues to deepen two-way collaboration. During this year's expo, Fosun will sign strategic agreements and participate in high-level forums to expand its global partnership network, bring together resources and expertise, and translate innovation into practical applications.
This global expansion is underpinned by a supply chain network adhering to international quality standards. Fosun Pharma has 65 pharmaceutical manufacturing sites and production lines that have obtained GMP certifications from major overseas markets or WHO prequalification. This enables the company to maintain a reliable and steady supply of medicines to key markets worldwide, including China, the United States, Europe, India, Africa and Southeast Asia.
Building on its global strengths, Fosun is accelerating the global expansion of its innovative drugs, unlocking their value in markets worldwide. By the end of the first half of 2026, Fosun Pharma had cumulatively supplied more than 460 million vials of artesunate for injection worldwide, saving more than 92 million patients with severe malaria. Its independently developed HANSIZHUANG (serplulimab) is the world's first anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody approved for the first-line treatment of small cell lung cancer, and the first anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody approved for perioperative treatment of gastric cancer. It is now available in more than 50 countries and regions. HANQUYOU (trastuzumab), the first China-developed monoclonal antibody biosimilar to receive approval in China, the European Union and the United States, has secured marketing approval in more than 50 countries and regions. HANLIKANG (rituximab), China's first biosimilar, has also received approval in several Latin American markets. Meanwhile, FUMAINING (luvometinib tablets), a highly selective MEK1/2 inhibitor, was granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation (BTD) by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), which is expected to accelerate its regulatory approval and commercialization in Saudi Arabia.
By integrating product supply, localized manufacturing, regulatory approval, and commercial collaboration, Fosun Pharma is leveraging its global presence to deliver long-term value to patients worldwide. These efforts reflect Fosun's "innovation + globalization" strategy in action across its pharmaceutical and healthcare businesses.
"The value of the CIIE goes beyond the products showcased and agreements signed during the expo. Its lasting value lies in how many of these innovations ultimately become accessible diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients worldwide. Transforming exhibits into products and bringing those products to patients have guided our participation across all nine editions of the CIIE and will remain a long-term priority for Fosun," said Guo Guangchang.
